WHY YOUR BELIEFS ARE HOLDING YOU BACK.
I used to think a belief, was it. Once I have a belief it couldn’t be changed.
Like believing in God or the security of your job.
I was pretty staunch in my beliefs. Simple beliefs, every-day beliefs… things we take for granted.
Like…
Belief #1: It’s the economies fault. No one has any money now and that’s why they aren’t buying.
Belief #2: I’m not a morning person.
Belief #3: I don’t have time to workout.
Belief #4: I was like this when you met me. Stop trying to change me.
Belief #5: I’ll never stop playing soccer — it’s who I am!
Belief #6: I’m not a reader
Belief #7: Owning your own business is stupid — why own it when you can show up every day and have little to no responsibility.
Belief #9: I need to have a beer in my hand to have fun.
Belief #10: I’m never getting married, having kids or buying a house because I’ll never have any freedom.
Belief #11: I don’t need your help.
ABOVE — I used to believe — strongly — in every one of the above.
NOW — not a SINGLE ONE OF THEM is true for me anymore.
What I discovered was — your beliefs are roadblocks.
Don’t get me wrong… they can be extremely liberating too. But only when you are open to another point of view.
Meaning — free from filtering someone’s worldview through your worldview. Stepping into their world, their shoes, and being 100% INTERESTED. CURIOUS. OPEN.
Just because your thing is right for you doesn’t mean it’s right for them, and vice-versa.
My problem was I couldn’t see past the thing I knew to be true.
I’d shut people out, dismiss people and stop listening, I thought I had all the answers because it had gotten me this far, right?
And that’s when shit started to go downhill.
My mood when things didn’t go my way, over time, turned into my attitude.
My attitude, over time, started to impact my decisions and interactions and thoughts.
My decisions, over time, became what I believed in.
And once that belief took hold — it stayed.
TAKEAWAY: Even the beliefs that serve you powerfully should be questioned in order to discover more about yourself, your family, your world.
Don’t let ONE Incident be the final nail in the coffin for that part of your life.
Become a seeker — not a settler
Shift your MOOD and your PERSPECTIVE in order to CHALLENGE and QUESTION your beliefs.
Once upon a time, the earth was flat — so we thought.
